#DataMoshing
I filmed some video clips acting like a video game protagonist spawning (shot 2). This music video has an awesome glitchy mess of datamoshing. Which I still know how to edit in Avidemux

Wow, I hadn't tried data-crashing webp files! They use a video compression format so it makes perfect sense that they would have the streaming corruption you get from datamoshing mpeg video. But this is fantastic for creating that look with still images without having to glitch a video. Thanks!

I recall I did some datamoshing at the time (although with an hex editor), it was truly a "let's see that this does" process where a lot of times was "break it too much"

Thank you!!!! This mostly came about because I was experimenting with datamoshing/video compression effects and using it for seamless transitions. I guess at some point I realised it allowed me to put invisible portals wherever I want, and I rolled with that :)

I think it looks better without the datamoshing step honestly, but regardless it's very impressive

Aaaa hell yeah looking forward to it!!

Also, ngl, hardware does a lot of the heavy lifting sometimes. Datamoshing is hard work!!

When I have money someday I'll commission you for music video stuff bb 😘

Realized I never shared this short crummy little breakdown I made back in 2023, showcasing the datamoshing workflow with the DXR raytracing setup I was working on at the time.

"Everything is rendered in realtime in #unity3d using custom post processing shaders & a custom DXR (raytrace) setup."

bayer-dithered spade
tilling the bleak soil,
that, through gall and ache,
do break and recoil.

datamoshing nacre
conned from bleachèd bones
forlorn by the gravemaker,
who've wrought, hewn, this tombstone

as a younger sexton,
humming his own song.

30) Bloat (2025, dir. Pablo Absento) - Japanese/American found footage horror. A nothingburger of a found footage flick, and while it's not impossible to make kappa unnerving (hi Senritsu Kaiki 3) I don't think this Host/War of the Worlds 2025-style found footage works for that.

Goodnight all. Thanks for another great Dragon Tuesday, and it was amazing to see so many #SamhAIn 🎃 black dragons in the mix.

It's been a fantastic showing so far this #SamhAIn, and I'm very curious to see what happens with tomorrow's "Carnival horror" theme 🤡

I'm very happy with the turnout for #SamhAIn – it's already exceeding all my expectations 🎃

Tomorrow we have a dragon theme, and then back to the creepy and weird 👻

a great way to teach yourself basic datamoshing is to crunch your best friend thru an audio editing software 👍

Today I'm getting geared up for #SamhAIn – sharing some examples in case anyone wants to join in 🎃

Monday's style is "cyanotype glitch", which goes well with shadowy horrors. Here's a sample #PromptShare:

SANGRA:
Classic survival horror with an over-the-shoulder cam. Corridors are as tight as your ammo count and your inventory space. Enemy datamoshing effect is trippy. The wide turn radius is a little awkward but I think a little awkwardness is warranted.

NIN “The Great Destroyer”; raw datamoshing clips from my stage visuals, 2007-14. These were intercut chaotically in TGD’s glitch noise jam, but I like the way they play out uncut; it’s morbidly hypnotic watching the Talking Heads of American Imperialism melt and swirl into colorful digital ooze. 1/
