It's the most wildly personal set I know, but breathes DSCH-spirit, not Rozh-willfullness. Wouldn't choose it over the Kondrashin set, probably (which I've lent and lost), but very happy to have gotten my hands on it. First individually, mostly Euroarts GDR copies, then the box.

#morninglistening to Rozhdestvensky's DSCH-10 from the BMG/@firmamelodiya set. "Portrait of Stalin" my foot. But the self-portrait is undeniable. Some say, it's Dmitri's greatest symphonic achievement. Also in your book?

ja.

For classical music folks esp DSCH devotees:

Absolutely loving this recording

I’ve had the highly rated Nikolaeva recording for a couple of decades, but always found it a little wearingly cold.

This is a much warmer performance and production

#NowPlaying #DSCH #ActuallyWriting You know I’m buckling down to serious writing when the Shostakovich comes out - I have better recordings than this, but this was dads copy which he bought from Norco House for 99p roughly at the time I’m writing about

#ClassicalMusic Classic FM shows a playful side with a DSCH/Harry Potter gag—proof they can do humour, not just “relaxing” vibes. Seen it? Share your favourite cheeky classical moments. #ClassicFM #Shostakovich

Here's a link to a performance of the paradigmatic case I alluded to throughout my analysis (Stevenson's Passacaglia on DSCH)...
