Have you been to Chethams library, you can see the desk Marx and Engels used to sit at?

As it's the 1st (or 3rd) Saturday of the month, I popped over to have a look around Clayton Hall in Manchester, the former home of a certain Humphrey Chetham.

Obviously, I plugged Chethams Library while I was there... 😉

An absolutely cracking afternoon leading a fully-booked tour around Chethams Library, meeting folk from Belgium, France, Italy, Slovenia, Spain, with a brace of Mancunians too.

we never had a serial abuser in my school thankfully (though a couple of dodgy 'teacher marries ex-student when they're 19' cases) but a few kids I knew were at Chethams where there were numerous abusers working at the time, it turned out.

I visited Chethams in 2018. Marx and Engels used to meet there to research what became the Manifesto. You can sit at the desk they hung out at and read fascimilies of the texts they checked out. One of the oldest libraries opened to the public. Fascinating place

Site of the current Chethams Music School where entrance structure still remains. Drawing by Hedley Fitton for C19th novel Manchester Man. Looks like the aftermath of a Manchester rainfall.
