In closing remarks at #CITESCoP20, CoP Alternate Chair Alisher Salomov (Uzbekistan) lauded this meeting as marking a “historic moment for Uzbekistan and Central Asia.” Reminding everyone in plenary that “nature transcends borders,” he gaveled CoP20 to a close at 11:47 a.m.

At #CITESCoP20, the reopened proposal to list sea cucumbers under Appendix II—with an additional 24-month delay—was rejected

Other reopened listing proposals saw more success, with the rose-hair tarantula (if not look-alikes) making it into Appendix II

At #CITESCoP20, in the afternoon plenary, delegates voted not to reopen discussions on the contentious "look-alike" criteria for amending Appendices I and II, with 27 in favor, 98 opposing, and 17 abstaining.

Great news from #CITESCOP20: Governments have agreed to ban commercial trade of Galápagos iguanas.

“Ecuador is deeply committed to protecting the natural heritage of the Galápagos,“ said WCS’s Sebastián Valdivieso, “and this decision reinforces that commitment.”

#CITESCoP20 Committee I accepted by consensus South Africa's proposal to delete #bontebok (Damaliscus pygargus pygargus) from Appendix II, with delegates hailing the population rebound in the species' sole range state as "one of the greatest conservation success stories in the Convention's history.”
