Densely packed flowers in a cincinnus, tubular bracteoles & linear labella define 𝐻𝑒𝑙𝑙𝑤𝑖𝑔𝑖𝑎 (Zingiberaceae). This study reinstates the genus, reclassifying 76 species from 𝐴𝑙𝑝𝑖𝑛𝑖𝑎.

when I first learned cincinnati was named after the society of the cincinnati, and thus named after cincinnatus, I was thrilled to learn that it was rooted in "cincinnus", like they were calling him "curly"

Chart of Indeterminate Inflorescences (flower structures of more than 1 flower where the first flowers to open are at the base or periphery). Spike: a central stem with alternating & opposite flowers. Raceme, which has 3 types: Simple Alternating, where tiny alternating stems grow out & up from the main stem to end in flowers; Simple Opposite, where the flower stems emerge from the main 1 in opposite pairs; and Compound, where the flowers are @ the end of tertiary stems that emerge from a secondary stem that itself comes from the main stem. Panicle: side stems emerge alternating & split in the same manner into along each side stem with a flower @ each of the multiple ends. Thyrse: paired opposite side stems going up a main stem with flower bunches @ the ends of the side stems. Ament or Catkin: like a spike, but it hangs and grows downward. Spadix: a wide and elongated central column, around which the flower grow. Corymb, there are 2 types: Simple, where there are alternating stems of flowers emerging from the main 1 into a gentle dome; and Compound, where multiple flowers come from the same side stem. Umbel, there are 3 types: Simple Round, which is like dandelions; Simple Flat, which is like Queen Anne's Lace; and Compound (triple), where the main stem splits into multiple side stems, & each 1 has 3 Simple (Round) Umbels @ the end. Capitulum: multiple flowers growing from a terminal platform on the main stalk. Head: like a thistle flower. Determinate Inflorescences (flower structures of more than 1 flower where the first flowers to open are at the top or middle). Monochasium: a cyme (main stem with a flower @ the end) with only a single lateral branch with a flower @ the end. Bostryx: a helicoid cyme with branching on the same side, often leading it curl - each branching will have a terminal flower. Cincinnus: a scorpioid cyme with alternate branching in a spiral-like pattern. Rhipidium: a scorpioid cyme with alternate branching in a zig-zag pattern. Dichasium: a simple cyme in which the main axis divides into 2 lateral branches, as always, each with their own flower @ the end. Compound Dichasium: wherein the 2 lateral branches you would have on a regular Dichasium, each have their own lateral branches, which also have THEIR own lateral branchs as well, every branch ending in a flower. Determinate Thyrse: as if small compoumd dicasiums grew in multiple paired opposite branches, going up the main stem/axis.
