lately have only been watching terrible Frank Grillo movies. like, they don't have to be terrible, I'd be happy to watch non-terrible movies, it's just they keep turning out to be terrible. or mediocre at best. (obvs CATWS is an exception.)

I rewatched catws after being dragged to the newest cap movie and honestly, it still holds up, especially regarding (gestures broadly). starting w cap3 tho I felt it was clear that all the political and moral coherence came from someone who was no longer in a position to direct the narrative-

coming back from the store and trying to decide why the end of Thunderbolts upset me so badly (because it did, even if I haven't talked about it) and it's at least partially because it is pretty literally the EXACT opposite way The Avengers ended, plus its politics are antithetical to IM3 and CATWS.

CATWS is a fantastic movie that becomes a worse movie because literally everything in it got retconned down the line, which is one of the most astounding series of decisions the MCU has ever made, which is saying something.

Marvel's heyday was the pre-merch days in fandom (I mean, besides prints and stickers); if Avengers or CATWS had come out today I bet the situation would be reversed. whereas the SW renaissance hit at the exact right time.

i do like the more artsy intense catws style directing but i wish theyd chill out on the dramatic close ups at least during combat scenes so i could appreciate the choreo better

they had no idea that Clint was carrying that! (though it remains deeply funny that a decade on we have literally ZERO reaction from Clint about the whole Hydra thing.) presumably he was simply not available during CATWS, which did go down over the course of like forty-eight hours.
