‘The night is darkening round me,
The wild winds coldly blow;
But a tyrant spell has bound me
And I cannot, cannot go.
The giant trees are bending
Their bare boughs weighed with snow.
And the storm is fast descending,
And yet I cannot go.’ ~ E Brontë #BookWormSat

My book club chose a classic for January.

I’m sure Brontë’s professor did not look like this. 👀 #BookSky

The marriage of Patrick Brontë and Maria Branwell took place in St Oswald's church on tomorrow's date 29 December in 1812 in a double wedding. Following a brief courtship, the couple married producing six children before Maria’s premature death in 1821.

Have a great one folks, whatever your persuasion!
Posts may be more sporadic as we're heading into the wilds but hope the season is kind to all my followers.

Cutting the sandworms from JANE EYRE is why Charlotte Bronte never achieved the lasting popularity of her sandworm-heavy contemporaries like Charles Dickens.

My aunt, after proposing a Christmas singalong: “The problem is that only Brontë knows all the words, but she can’t sing”

I'm rereading #wutheringheights because I saw that a movie is coming out. It's darker and stranger than I recalled. Heathcliff's unknowable origins play a very large role in the story, which strikes me as a revenge plot. Anyone else revisiting #bronte? #booksky 💙📚💙🖋️💙🖋️📚🖋️

I used to give a lectures on the history of (TT+C)RPGs and would dutifully start in the 70s because that's what was expected, but then open the last third with this map of Angria and ask if anyone knew what it was. The shared universe of the Brontë siblings! (this is mentioned downthread.)

Hello Womble! Currently reading one of my Christmas presents Brother Bronte by Fernando A Flores, a psychedelic punk border dystopia about books and culture as resistance from South Texas that is not easy to describe but really deserves attention. I've liked all his books to date.

Not one, but TWO paroxysmal eruptive episodes at #Etna 's Northeast Crater on 27 December 2025, AND minor activity at the Voragine crater. Though the Northeast Crater has frequently shown minor activity in recent decades, its last paroxysmal episode was on 27-28 March 1998.

Did Emily Brontë realize she’d written some heat when she said “whatever our souls are made of, his and mine are the same”?

The double wedding included Maria's cousin, Jane Fennell who married the Reverend William Morgan. The church of St Oswald, Guiseley, dates back to the late 11th or early 12th century although there are later additions. Extensive alterations, to designs by

“I have dreamt in my life, dreams that have stayed with me ever after, and changed my ideas; they have gone through and through me, like wine through water and altered the color of my mind.” -Emily Brontë, Wuthering Heights

Very strange to read poems from around the 1830s and feel like someone's written about you while they were writing about themselves. #Booksky

It's amazing how the climate changes the color of these newly formed Emily Bronte rosebuds. These are in a garden in the Netherlands, photographed by H. Goosen.

Como soy muy malo para los nombres, he buscado una lista de los personajes de la novela, y Google me ha dado oro. IsidORO.

Se habla poco de Emily Brontë como la creadora del gato Isidoro (Heathcliff en inglés).
