Just finished ‘The Poisoned Crown’, and ‘Royal Succession’ by Maurice Druon (middle of ‘Accursed Kings’ series

Found this series on 2nd hand book shop. It’s historical 1315 -1325 France (a time of some turmoil)

Lots of intrigue and plotting - good if a slightly stilted translation.

First book done in 2025. It was the hunger games. I read it because my son needs to read it for school and he needed the encouragement.

Some books have been patiently waiting on the shelf for years!!! This one is from 2008 🤦‍♀️ and I'm pretty sure I'll find even older ones as I work through the pile!! Still, better late than never!?!?

Do I count this as the 6th book of 2025 if I didn't finish it? I made it halfway. it's not engaging enough to hold my attention. Protagonist is flat & unrelatable. The Anita Blake and Dresden Files series' are infinity better.

Third book of 2025. The Fifth Witness by Michael Connelly.
I love this series. Mickey Haller is my favorite fictional lawyer, hands down. I love watching him evolve through this series, case by case.

Two read recently

Lord of Chaos by Robert Jordan (book 6 in Wheel of Time). Embarrassing how late I came to this series

Raylan by Elmore Leonard - best dialogue in thrillers ever

5th book of 2025. Erasing History by Jason Stanley. Yes, I read Non Fiction, too. Fascinating look at past and current fascism, and what we should all be aware of in order to fight it.

‘Money For Nothing’ by PG Wodehouse
Diverting, funny in parts but (and for Wodehouse a real crime) felt a bit heavy handed in places

Orbital by Samantha Harvey
Triggered thoughts (on parental death and separately perspective) I was underwhelmed. No plot!! Creative writing exercise??

Just finished ‘Armour of light’ by Ken Follett
Continuation of his history of England through the history of fictional Kingsbridge

The original ‘Pillars of the Earth’ is one of my favourite ever books

Here it’s Napaleonic wars and industrialisation of textiles
Interesting

Agreement with daughter to record ALL the books we each read this year

My first was Carl Hiassen ‘Tourist Season’ (1986).
His first book
Moderately funny black humour about a (very) OTT reaction to over-development in south Florida

Enjoyed it

Latest books read
‘Crack down’ by McDermid, early book i like, not so ‘hyper evil’ criminals - like / better than Sara Paresky
‘Girl in blue’ by Wodehouse - late career (70s). Funny but not prime. 2nd hand shop had a pile of less common Wodehouse books
Been busy so needed light reading

Absolute no-brainer which book I was going to read next. A JAM fan since the energy of "In The City" and the cheekiness of "Batman Theme". Lucky enough to see them live in Cardiff in 1980. And after the sad news of Rick's passing. #RIPRick

I know exactly why I bought this book!! I saw her on the Graham Norton Show (check it out on youtube) and she had everyone in stitches. (n.b. honeymoon in Paris 😂😂) and I'm pretty sure there'll be lots of great anecdotes in this book. #NowReading #Book6 #BooksIn2025

Just read ‘Bad Actors’ by Mick Heron
Didn’t enjoy it as much as others in this series - maybe because I read it on Kindle (still prefer physical book) and on a sort of work trip to Seville so I was distracted

Found his ‘god-eye’ view introduction and ending more intrusive than usual
