At State Library NSW, reading letters written in 1923 by Louisa Lawson’s sister, describing how in 1867 a teenaged Louisa gave birth in a tent on a goldfield to a sickly baby in winter & didn’t cope. Sister not sympathetic at all. Totally fascinating (and sad). #booksky #biography #AustralianHistory

W.A voted yes in the 1898 referendum to federate but due to govt heel dragging had no input into Australian constitution. In 1933 when 68% of Sand Gropers voted to leave Australia, they were politely told by Britain the constitution could not be changed. They were stuck with us! #Australianhistory

This was fascinating to listen to! Post-Holocaust family, dealing with trauma, but also legal issues, #diaspora and issues about one's own family being entangled, and #familysecrets - remarriages never spoken of and only revealed years later. #australianhistory #jewishdelis #historyofthebook
