'After Allen was murdered, Sheriff Daniel Jones was the main suspect. Sheriff Jones later told Allen’s widow, “If Louis had just shut his mouth, he wouldn’t be layin’ there on the ground.” No one was ever charged for or convicted of the murder of #LouisAllen.

The #13thAmendment was supposed to be the formal abolition of slavery in the U.S. It only ended #ChattelSlavery. It exempted ppl convicted of a crime & drafted to serve in the military.

Oliver Wolcott (1726–1797) a soldier, judge, and statesman from Connecticut, combined military and political service. As a brigadier general, he fought against the British, and as a delegate, he signed the Declaration. Later, he helped ratify the Constitution and serve as governor of Connecticut.
