Government action on climate adaptation is accelerating.

Our new research, funded by the @zcralliance.bsky.social, shows that 75% of adaptation‑relevant laws and policies have been adopted since the Paris Agreement in 2015, and almost half since 2020.

I know you already guessed it but it is still shocking. Repealing the endangerment finding violates Us law but also breaches the US’ international obligations under the UNFCCC and in customary international law.

Europe's huge chemicals sector is campaigning to weaken the EU's most important climate policy.

And Brussels is listening.

If the US crimes against humanity were affecting “only” the hundreds of millions of people residing in the US I might (might!) agree a global recession is a bigger deal. But shutting down the EPA and accelerating rather than combating the climate crisis? Shutting down USAID? Colluding with Russia?

Good background on the climate science chapter that was removed from the federal Judicial Center manual of scientific evidence for judges:

5) “the Supreme Court will eventually rule on this week’s move, as well, ostensibly in favor.”

Really? A U.S. District Court in January tossed the DOE’s fake-science report meant to support the endangerment repeal.

3) “free-market-driven innovation has done more to combat climate change than regulatory power grabs like the “endangerment finding.”

Really? You have evidence, or is this just empty ideological bluster?

2) “There may come a time when the people elected to enact laws decide the modest benefits of regulating greenhouse gases outweigh the considerable economic costs.”

Wrong. Benefit cost analyses regularly show the benefits of reducing GHGs vastly outweigh the costs.

1) “in 2009, the EPA decided it would treat greenhouse gases like other pollutants, despite their damage being global rather than local.”

No, the Bush-era EPA decided *not* to regulate greenhouse gases, was sued, and lost in the Supreme Court.

It was a new chapter, designed to help judges with the background science that is helpful in understanding climate litigation. That's what's so unfortunate about the removal.

"In other words, the major oil companies want to have it both ways: they’d like to repeal climate regulations on cars so gas demand never declines, but preserve enough climate regulation so they can defend themselves in court."
Trump is wiping out all climate regulation. Big Oil may regret it.
For decades, oil majors fought climate regulation. Now, they’re afraid Trump’s extreme rollbacks could leave them on the hook to pay for what they’ve done.
