I love how in some examples you can hear the pitch of the dial tone changing subtly before dialing. Because, you know, it was generated by a spinning wheel with teeth on it.

This is a good listen if you want to hear what phones sounded like in the pre-digital era.

That museum is on my bucket list. I was finally able to get to the Computer History Museum in San Jose, really need to do Connections Museum in Seattle.

I started with the contents of a Slackware root floppy as a base, and just kept adding things on. I did the compiling on my 486, would strip all the binaries and libs and copy them over via NFS.

Those days were fun. We did so many crazy things due to lack of resources.

This brings back memories when I tried to do something similar back in the 90s.

I had a 386 with a 20MB hard drive and even the most minimal installations from the distros at the time were bigger than that. So I constructed my own system with the bare necessities.

It worked! Even have a photo.

I still can't believe a smartphone camera did this.
