I love how in some examples you can hear the pitch of the dial tone changing subtly before dialing. Because, you know, it was generated by a spinning wheel with teeth on it.

This is a good listen if you want to hear what phones sounded like in the pre-digital era.

That museum is on my bucket list. I was finally able to get to the Computer History Museum in San Jose, really need to do Connections Museum in Seattle.

Thank you for any part you've had keeping this tech alive.

I bet that prevents idiots from modifying their exhaust systems to be loud and annoying too.

I love this.We almost never get to see feral cats like this because they're afraid and can't relax around us. It's so wonderful to see them being happy cats out of our sight.

You might get moments like what just happened. :)

I've always hated that phone makers allow carriers to disable features.

Who wants this? Is anyone actually asking for this??

OMG that's awesome. Yeah they'll get used to that pretty quick I bet.

My Annie loves to watch the sparrows and lizards from various windows.

I started with the contents of a Slackware root floppy as a base, and just kept adding things on. I did the compiling on my 486, would strip all the binaries and libs and copy them over via NFS.

Those days were fun. We did so many crazy things due to lack of resources.

This brings back memories when I tried to do something similar back in the 90s.

I had a 386 with a 20MB hard drive and even the most minimal installations from the distros at the time were bigger than that. So I constructed my own system with the bare necessities.

It worked! Even have a photo.

I still can't believe a smartphone camera did this.

This photo has all the wins. Unbelievable timing, composition, and modern technology making it possible.

I've been on VR for about four months and haven't seen any of this stuff yet thankfully. Have only had to deal with random trolls and they were just being annoying.

I think it's like any other large platform, you're going to have some chuds now and then.

That was in the official trailer? Holy shit...

Remember, animators ALWAYS know exactly what they're doing. :)

Now the original charity is struggling (I've kept donating but it's obviously nowhere near as much) and all for *nothing*.
November 12, 2025 at 4:16 PM
Yeah. One con I go to was mercilessly harassed into changing their charity. Harassment campaign was started by someone in another country who has never been to the con.

You can make suggestions, but if you're an asshole about it? OUT YOU GO.
