Author, ALL STRANGERS ARE KIN (now an AUDIOBOOK!). Editor. I comment on: Arabic, refugees, travel, grammar, Queens, more. she/her. Profile pic: black tee with “love” in white, in Arabic and English. Banner: mosaic of Manhattan skyline seen f/ Queens.
In a motel called the Retro Inn and I can’t tell if it was a conscious decision to have an actual phone book and bible in the drawer? Just like old times!

The new iOS camera app icon is creepy, no? But honest, I suppose, as a reminder you’re holding a personalized surveillance tool.

As a general rule when creating sculpture for an airport, maybe better to avoid things that look a bit like a plane breaking into pieces in midair

Really, Teams, I can't add my pronouns to my account name?!

I see they updated it -- but it's like the ghost of "reliance" is still there in the background.

Thought I knew all the ways Amazon/Audible could short-change me, but this is a new low!
(PS All Strangers Are Kin is available as a wonderful audiobook read by the excellent Julia Farhat. Get it anywhere but Audible!)

Nice work, Natan Last, designer of this Sunday’s NYT crossword. (There’s also a reference to tariffs as taxes.)

An eerie amalgam of many of my kitchens. The tile in an old apartment, those metal canisters up until v recently (I think they were my mother-in-law's, a wedding gift). Still have orange descoware and those same clamp-top jars. Have *not* adopted Joan's hair ribbons, which look like a fire hazard.

رجعوني عينيك لأيامي اللي راحوا
علموني أندم على الماضي وجراحه
اللي شفته قبل ما تشوفك عينيا
عمر ضايع يحسبوه إزاي عليّا

You can't see the oxblood Docs in the pic, but I'm pretty sure I saw him at the 9:30.

Oh, thunder only happens when it's rainin'
Players only love you when they're playin'
Say women, they will come and they will go
When the rain washes you clean, you'll know
You'll know

“Young & Restless”?! Now it’s like 1975?! Don’t want to be ageist but just how old are all the city’s headline writers?
November 9, 2025 at 6:19 PM
“Yuppies”?! Did I wake up in 1987?

Is the fentanyl so cheap because they bought it on the street? The Tylenol so pricey because RFK Jr hates it? WTF is wrong with out health care system?

I just love this! Have always wondered if this style is just one guy's invention, or if it signifies "traditional Punjab" style (like "traditional Basque" font with its big heavy bars on the A's). Either way, I kind of want to throw a dance party in a garage and call it Body-Work.

Seeing these hand-painted posters in the background and *only now* is it occurring to me that the campaign could've been even MORE incredible by hiring the guy who does all the auto-repair signs on 21st St in Queens. DAMN.
