I love the patterns on this old tree
A twisted tree in Bryce Canyon NP in 2015. The tree is mostly dead with alternating spirals of rusty red and grey going counter clockwise up the trunk.

The parents of this year's Royal Albatross pair are getting GPS tags!
I can't wait to see how far they go to get food for their new little one
a screenshot form the other site showing a picture of 2 albatrosses, and test which says, among other things: "Also RLK and GLG will receive GPS tags this season" and the alt text there says: RLK and GLG will receive GPS tags this season. There is much we do not know about the Toroa's life at sea. RLK being fresh on the nest will receive his tag today, likely after 2pm. The egg will be put in an insulated carry case for safe keeping during the procedure. RLK also needs band maintenance, this will be done at the same time. ~ Updated: The egg will be moved to the incubator at 1.30pm a dummy egg will be placed in the nest and the tagging will take place at 2.15pm. The egg will he returned to RLK later in the day once he has settled. ~ Updated: Tagging at 3.15 unless the wind is over 50 knots then the work will he delayed. GLG will receive her tag when she next returns. There will be a further update after tagging.

Newfoundland really is a beautiful place. I could have sat here for hours looking out over the water

We have a celebrity bird in Niagara this week - Cinnamon Teal! He was unfortunately pretty shy today, and I was dodging reeds to get a view of him. Still pretty special! #birds

Another great sighting from Newfoundland - sperm whales! There were 20+ of them on the surface, just floating there.

I saw the Steller's Sea-Eagle in Newfoundland on Thursday. We went on a boat tour in Trinity (the tour guide was fantastic). It was magnificent!

I've been in Newfoundland for the last 5 days (absolutely fantastic trip).

This morning we went on a boat tour and got to see the Steller's Sea-Eagle!! I'm still giddy with excitement!! 🪶

I spent a beautiful day on Saturday at Long Point (southern Ontario on Lake Erie) and walked the Big Creek Trail. This little grebe was keeping a close eye on me

Oh my! I just watched this wasp spend several minutes trying to shove the grasshopper into a hole in my lawn chair frame! It was very determined!

I'm looking forward to figuring out what kind of wasp...

Day 21 of #ArtAdventCalendar is from Cathedral Grove on Vancouver Island. I love a good tree
A tree towers over us, reaching up to the blue sky. Its trunk and branches are covered in green and yellow moss, some clinging to the bark, some draping down from the branches like a festive fringe. Green and yellow leaves can be seen in the distant upper branches.

This Great Horned Owl nest was a couple of hundred yards away way up in a tree, but it was even with the top of an overpass so great viewing of these two owlets! I'm amazed at the obvious age difference of the siblings
