In this lecture Herbert Dawid will first review some empirical work on the effects of algorithmic pricing on markets and then discuss market simulation studies analyzing which factors influence the tendency of pricing algorithms to generate prices above the competitive level.

🔍 Firms are increasingly using algorithms to not only support their decision processes but also to autonomously determine their actions. This can include price setting. Concerns have been raised that the wide spread use of such algorithmic decision making might lead to “algorithmic collusion”.

Therefore, the ZiF-Workshop “Rearticulating Autonomy”, convened by Benjamin Paaßen, Amrei Bahr and Maximilian Mayer, aimed to merge currently separate streams of research concerning the autonomy of learners, teachers, researchers, and higher education institutions in the age of AI.
