Pretending it's anything else is doing yourself and others a major disservice. Impartiality does not require treating everything politicians say as gospel truth.

"basic reporting" can still be editorialized, propagandized, and made seriously misleading. Any reporting that sanewashes Trump's word salads by "translating" without conveying how nonsensical and verbally messy he speaks is doing serious harm. Noticeably when every minor Biden flub was a headline.
