I have managed to break the habit of checking Facebook. But I don't often check 🦋 either.

A big part of it is that the people I have followed here tend to be heavily politically focused and it makes it a depressing read. What fun, silly content is there? I've got @dogrates.bsky.social . What else?

My tolerance for children has improved greatly over the years, but...

But.

Well. At least the world also has dogs.

I have definitely found that since I started avoiding Amazon in earnest, I'm simply... shopping less. I don't actually need most of that stuff.

I don't understand why LinkedIn doesn't let you select which specific people to share "open to work" status with. Options are only "recruiters" (ineffective) and "everyone" (too public if you're employed).

It seems such an obvious feature that it must be a CHOICE not to have it. What am I missing??

I'm so confused about the concept of "reusable paper towels." Are those not just "towels"?

I have heard of "trimming the bushes to make the deck look bigger" but it's a little awkward when that's how your dog comes back from the vet (abdominal ultrasound).

Will Magas buy those electric cars?

Will they drive them?

Will they like them?

Cancelled WaPo a few months ago, after the editorial staff shakeup. Cancelled Instagram a few weeks ago (low hanging fruit). Cancelled Amazon Prime and both of my Subscribe & Save items today.

Bear in mind, according to Nate Silver (or, my memory of his statements) approval polls tend to lag a couple of weeks behind actual public sentiment, just due to how long it takes to conduct and publish a high quality poll.

Did you know you can get your measles titre checked, to increase your confidence that you're actually immune? If it's negative at least you'll know to get revaccinated. I got mine checked in 2019 when we moved to Oregon, knowing that there are more vaccine deniers here than in California.
Unvaccinated Child Dies of Measles in Texas, Officials Say
At least 124 cases have been identified in Texas since late January, mostly among children and teenagers who are unvaccinated or whose vaccination status was unknown.

Just finished Trevor Noah's autobiography, _Born a Crime_. I like listening to autobiographies read by the author. This was an especially good one; the several African languages he speaks are important to his story.

It also shed light on the culture a certain _other_ South African grew up in.

The funny thing about making Canada a state is that then Canadians would be eligible to vote.

It won't happen for a million reasons, but that's up near the top of the list of why Republicans would never actually support it. Though that does assume we still have something resembling a democracy.

"Gulf of America" is laughable, and I will continue to laugh at it. But let's not waste any effort on it beyond writing more and better punchlines.

Each square is a day. Center color is low temp, next color is high temp. Next color is kWh produced by my solar panels. Final color is day length.

The month initials are done in the color of the average daily kWh produced for the month.

I notice that you can now limit who can interact with posts here, even if you can't limit who can see them. That's 80% of why I want to limit the audience, so yay. Still don't see a way to make that a default for all posts, but maybe they're working on it. 🦋
