@slio9.bsky.social has brought up the concept of "the ancient ruins builders" a few times when streaming RPGs and that always brings to mind for me this particular King Aroo strip, in which King Aroo builds an ancient ruin.

It's the kind of place where you could imagine next to anything just walking out of the mists — which was provable true, as when I strolled its halls with my dad one time only to see Mr. McFeely walk towards us. He had done a promotion with the local PBS station earlier that day.

Forest Fair Mall was a beautiful place in its heyday, but that heyday was maybe two years in the early 90s and another eight months in the early 00s. Between and after that, it relaxed into a sort of magically dreamland of empty stores and empty hallways, all lit by neon lights.

Some in progress images. Parts had to be trimmed, sanded, and cleaned. Follow that up with a layer of gray, a layer of black, and then some highlights with metallic paint markers (plus painting the eyes with a very thin brush).
Then glue where necessary, a coat of gloss varnish, and assembly!

I've built a handful of gunpla before, but I always found the prospect of building a resin kit pretty intimidating. But I after being offered a garage kit at a cheap price, I thought what the hell?

I'm frequently caught aback by how religious these shows can be. I'm currently working my way through Daikengo and it's come up multiple times that the robot is literally being directed by God.

While I'm looking at the '97 Data Book, I love that it depicts Nineball's pilot, Hustler One, as just Toguro the Younger.

I find it really interesting to compare Kawamori Shoji's work on Battletech with his later work on Armored Core. I wonder if someone at Fromsoft pointed to this earlier work of his as something to imitate?

The wild thing about older television cartoons is that you can say cheesy stuff like "the new remaster has it looking better than ever before!" and have that simply be categorically correct.

There's a whole pile of cool stuff worth checking out, but other models that particularly caught my eye: Zinaida (final mission loadout), May Greenfield, and that one snuffleupagus robot from Project Phantasm that had way too much health and could hit you with missiles from across the map.
