I think Char was spinning his wheels in Zeta, affiliating himself with AEUG was an attempt to find purpose post the One Year War. He's clearly comfortable with being a pilot but he's eventually forced into a leadership role and kind of accepts it because it's what people expect of him.

Kamille has a strong sense of individuality; a period of time where he's jealous of Quattro for his relationship w/Reccoa. Tells Quattro to his face that he would think poorly of him if he really was Char; that would make Quattro another pathetic adult. Ultimately putting a wedge between the two.

Absolutely, his dynamic with the two definitely mirrored and I argue the same can be said for Kamille and Quess from their perspective as well.

Quess puts her full trust in Char and sees Nanai as a rival for Char's attention; she relies on Char to define herself.
