Gravy boats on the Great Lakes are routinely inspected for structural integrity in order to prevent a repeat of the wreck of the Breadmund Fitzgerald.

Another use case: spreading out bus timetables from e.g. a single bus every 30 minutes to 3 buses every 10 minutes. Cuts down on waiting time, and makes missing the bus a lot less catastrophic to one's day.

I can see this being useful for more route flexibility. I've lived in plenty of towns that were too small to justify full-sized buses, but for which a microbus like this would be perfect. Even in big cities there are plenty of potential routes with the same issue of a normal bus being “overkill”.

The George Floyd case fascinates me because it would've been much cheaper for the city to just comp that store for the allegedly-fake $20 bill than to send out a bunch of cops to detain and murder Floyd, and yet the people who support the more expensive option call themselves ”fiscal conservatives”.

Even entirely ignoring the moral case, government agencies should recognize the practical case of being able to widely disseminate critical information to the public without needing to depend entirely on some for-profit external entity to do so.
