Next total solar eclipses visible in the US will be in 2044 and 2045. Hope I'm not dead before then!

It's a diplomatic position not a legal position. "Taiwan recognizes itself as part of China"? They absolutely do not accept rule by the CCP so what is the point of the mental gymnastics? And now turning to "Taiwanese are racists", as if mainlanders aren't and it's a justification for invasion.
December 12, 2025 at 6:39 PM
Many nations have a diplomatic position of ambiguity on Taiwanese Independence to appease China, but everyone knows Taiwan is an independent nation. China does not control Taiwan. That's reality. A chatbot is obviously biased if it's going to claim that this is a settled debate with one answer.

They choose a public frontline map to use as a source of truth. Of course these are all falsifiable. The ISW map was faked to ensure a betting market outcome just 2 weeks ago.

Honestly I think the current open push for a vampiric oligarchy has appeal to many because the oligarchs' stupidity is relatable to people who are also, themselves, stupid.

If the courts can't throw out obviously unconstitutional executive orders like this then we've got some real problems. The birthright citizenship order, this one, and many others should get a 9-0 Supreme Court decision.

Also need to ban their participation in event betting markets or ban event betting markets altogether.
December 5, 2025 at 8:54 PM
Some are up, some are down. The market is very stupid. Hype drives pricing a LOT more than reality.

It's a clear misuse of the term "end-to-end encryption." As a software dev, no company I've worked for (and they all use encryption during transport) ever used that term unless the data on their servers was encrypted in such a way that the company could not decrypt it, only the end users.

Already have had so much outcome manipulation on these markets. It's just a bonkers, post-truth idea to not completely ban these platforms. One example:

'Unauthorized' Edit to Ukraine's Frontline Maps Point to Polymarket's War Betting
It looks like someone invented a fake Russia advance in Ukraine to manipulate online gambling markets.

We should never forget that Obama did this and never forgive him for it. We need better leaders.
December 3, 2025 at 4:08 AM
Well he does have the same opinions on the war in Ukraine as Putin

Feel sorry for him for having to say bullshit like this just to try to stay on the good side of this administration of self-interested smoothbrains.

Out of all of the admin officials named, the only one who *might* not want to sell out Ukraine in service of Russia is Rubio.

This must be the least competent administration in US history. Bunch of idiots.

The money from tickets and TV deals is often peanuts compared to the expenses. It's a money hole that does nothing to enhance educational outcomes.
November 22, 2025 at 1:48 PM
When looking at a university's budget and Admin and Athletics are the most expensive 2 departments, you've got the problem laid out for you right there.
November 22, 2025 at 1:46 PM
Athletics is a huge money sink. Often the stadiums are paid for by taxpayers and the rest is paid for by student tuition and fees. Despite the persistent belief that college sports make money, there are only a few schools in the whole country that actually run a surplus from tickets and TV deals

If you've got a 401k then you're a shareholder, sort of! The actual shareholder is a fund that controls your retirement money and the money of millions of others without any of you having any knowledge of or input on the investments being made with your money! Hooray!
November 21, 2025 at 11:56 PM
Yeah, agreed. Companies need to have a real fear of regulation for this kind of argument to work, though, and that's sadly missing in the US.
November 21, 2025 at 8:47 PM
It's a publicly traded company. Shareholders could actually sue him if he made a public statement about intentionally reducing income/growth.

I pretty much get the Waymo statement. Self-driving cars will eventually reduce the accident rate astronomically, and even self-driving cars that are much safer than humans will get into accidents sometimes if enough of them are on the road. Waymo is already safer, at least within their geofences.

Europe is going to have some brutal winters if the North Atlantic Ocean current breaks down, which it, uhhh, very well might within a few decades if we don't reverse global warming.
