The South Sudan record originated from that same dataset but was later manually enriched by a contributor to our platform with data from different sources including from the new country’s government.

(1) The "Independence of South Sudan" is a distinct territorial-change event for Sudan. It has a name and a date associated with it. The independence of Namibia from South Africa, however, appears only as generic, auto-generated events from the CShapes dataset [1,3].
