Would be cool if the governor of one of the few states that has enough power, politically and economically, to set the agenda on policy wasn’t cozying up to transphobes all the time.

Eh, I think driving is individualist by nature. In India it might be a little better (though I’ve never felt safe on an Indian road), but only because it’s slower. I think public transit is an inherently democratic modality. You have more to gain from following the social contract on the train!
