There was a wood duck in Central Park this morning.

I think I give off the sort of neurodivergent energy that makes people ask me directions under the (correct) assumption that I have a decent mental map of the street grid and subway system because I’ve never been on vacation without being asked several times for directions.

My timeline is entirely Bruce Springsteen or Billy Bragg Minneapolis song re-posts. Not a complaint.

Visiting my folks this weekend and the cousin who said to my face that she’s glad SHE could give my parents grandchildren has invited herself along again. Only this year I’m perimenopausal so there’s a decent chance she gets a more agressive response than stunned silence.

My mom called this morning to check up on me before the snow storm and I just started info-dumping about the NWSL salary cap and the implications of the Gore trade, much to her dismay. Meanwhile my dad was shouting for Rodman details in the background. Guess where I got my flavor of neurodivergence?

My plan to avoid AFCON spoilers while attending the PWHL game was thwarted by push notifications.

Obligatory proof I am hanging with the cool people of DC at the PWHL game

The 6 hooded mergansers and this wood duck showing up at my local pond for the last week have provided some joy among the awful news. Birding is the best.

TERFs discovering this post: "let me explain the rationale for my bigotry I believe exonerates me" lol yeah that's what I'm talking about.
If you have “sincere concerns” about trans athletes in sports, all it means is that you have given yourself a rationale for your bigotry that you sincerely believe exonerates you for aligning to a far-right tactic for marginalization and exclusion.

My dad said the ferry wait out of the Jaguars game would be hours so I sent this to the family group chat.
I think a lot of people think the point of sports is that your team will win and then you will be happy. That is not the point of sports. The point of sports is to be sad in a group

Thought I was channeling my anger productively until 2 LDS missionaries cornered me on the street and triggered 10 years of trauma from living in Utah. I did not react gracefully.

If you’re in your 40s and getting increasingly bad at telling people’s age, just drop a 6-7 into the conversation and that’ll really narrow it down for you.

As things stand now, the NWSL isn’t fighting for Trinity Rodman. It’s fighting against her, and shadowboxing with its own potential in the process.

A column, at @theathletic.com:

NWSL said it would fight for Trinity Rodman. It’s only fighting with itself
One way or the other, the league will set a precedent with Rodman. The NWSL has the power to choose what that looks like.

Met up with one my birding groups and to my dismay Wicked was the topic of conversation. The horror on everyone’s face when I admitted to walking out of the show during intermission. Then everyone admitted they’d only listened to the soundtrack and never seen the musical before the movies came out.

Not going to lie, I’d definitely use a cheese plate to communicate my displeasure. I once bought souvenirs for every co-worker (except one) while on vacation just to enjoy the moment he realized he was the only one without a gift. It did inspire him to actually apologize to me, which was a bonus.
one of my uncles is banned from thanksgiving after he brought a giant spread of artisanal cheese, engaged in a planned confrontation with my cousins who were hosting and called them assholes, and then left and TOOK THE CHEESE AWAY

the Murray's Confrontation has never been forgiven

If you’re interested in labor or music history, this is fascinating. As someone who listened to Billy Bragg’s album Talking with the Taxman about Poetry a thousand times in high school, I couldn’t click on the articles fast enough.
110 years ago today, Utah executed labor organizer and songwriter Joe Hill, whose critique of capitalist greed continues to inspire artists and galvanize activists to this day.
Learn more about Hill and his impact through this project The Tribune launched to mark the 100th anniversary of his death.
The Legacy of Joe Hill
The Legacy of Joe Hill: Did Utah execute an innocent man by firing squad on Nov. 19, 1915? A century later, Joe Hill inspires artists and galvanizes activists.

Absolutely my favorite player to watch this season. What a game! Only downside is it’s the last Audi home game this year (I wish we’d stop doing neutral site Finals).

That’s our keeper!
37.5% - In penalty shootouts in all competitions for #NWSL teams, Aubrey Kingsbury has saved 37.5% of the on-target penalties she has faced (9/24). All other goalkeepers have combined to save just 17.2% (20/116). Different.

I love that baseball is such an orderly sport that I can record the events of a game on a sheet of paper and also the sport that produces the most insane combinations of events to the point where players, announcers, and the most fanatical spectators get utterly bewildered.
