Ditto Maggie’s 311 response. HRM depends on resident’s input. Writing to councillors is a good idea only after trying this, and for an issue like this effecting many people, trending the number of responses helps. (This is D9 area now too since the 2024 election.)

Been using sunflower chips/shelled seeds for a while on our balcony. No shells=virtually no mess. I use small dishes, refilling them once or twice a day & switch the dish out every day or so for a clean one. So far, we haven’t had any issues. I live in the south end/downtown. Happy birding!

I've heard nighthawks a few times recently (thanks to merlin identifying them). I live near the grain elevators & point pleasant is close by - makes for a nice little bird "ecosystem". I have more types of birds on my tiny balcony in the city than i ever did in 'the burbs'. Did not expect that! 😍

I'm a broken record preaching to the choir, but I do think it's worth emphasizing that cyclists (and pedestrians) are afraid drivers will kill them. Drivers are annoyed that bicyclists will slow them down or be rude to them.
