Some people are just born with CAP_NET_BIND and live through most of their life without realizing others can't bind ports below 1024

half of my kingdom for a configuration management tool that:

- is a real programming language (jinja with extras doesn't count as a real prigramming language)
- does not make backwards-incompatible changes
- does not have move-fast-and-break-API dependencies (so anything installed with pip is […]

Ansible: invents a convoluted system of templating and control flow that just barely qualifies as a programming language, but actually programming in it is very painful

me: finds a cool trick that makes it possible to dynamically create dicts in a readable and non-painful way

Ansible: breaks […]

The sudden urge to implement DisplayPort on an FPGA, just to see if I understand it correctly.

Fortunately I don't have an FPGA capable of it.

Hm... I wonder what a modern monitor is going to do if you try sending it a resolution it supports but with shorter blanking intervals...

Apparently there's an open-source reimplementation of Second Life called OpenSimulator

which has existed since 2007

has some form of cross server roaming / interconnect which could classify as a metaverse

and one of the interconnect […]

#isdn adjecent noob question:

The PDH (T1/E1 and stuff) had this problem that each sender had independent clock, which could be slightly faster or slightly slower than the mux, so after some time it may not have sent the next portion of bits when the mux needs to fill its slot in the frame, or […]

IPv6 has three kinds of features:

- those that the spec intended, and work

- those that the spec didn't intend, but they still work

- those that the spec intended, but either nobody implemented, or everyone blocks, so they don't work

What if: IPv6 XMAS packet

uses every extension header possible

if any of those have flags, those flags are all enabled

then the last NextHeader says there's another IPv6 inside, and that one is just as festive

how do I use both ULA and proxy-NDP IPv6 addresses on the same link...

OpenWrt's odhcpd can proxy Router Advertisements and override some of the options, but it won't add extra prefixes that the upstream didn't specify :/

Do I try to use SLAAC for proxied addresses and DHCPv6 for ULA?

Or just […]
