Post mainly about chess, sometimes serious, often slightly silly. Around 2000 FIDE.

Draw tonight with Black against someone around ECF 2000 - was never seriously worse (though I did feel under pressure), played a repetition in what was apparently a winning position.

Did you know that it’s not actually possible to play blindfold chess? People who claim to do it are just making up moves at random. #ChessFacts #chessfeed

Did you know that if you place 1 grain of rice on the a1 square, 2 on b1, 4 on c1 and so on across the board, your opponent will almost certainly call the arbiter? #ChessFacts #chessfeed

Did you know that Miguel Najdorf is the only chess player to be named after an opening? #ChessFacts #chessfeed

Random bit of chess trivia - my opponent last night played the game that Kasparov rated the most exciting he ever saw!

From last night’s game - I played 18.Nxh5 which is OK but not best. I rejected 18.Qxh5 because of 18…Bg7 with pressure for Black on the h-file, but I should have looked deeper - what would have happened next?

A really complex game, only lost control for one move (long think - wrong think!) so pretty good all round!

Thread. A reminder of some of my alltime favourite facts. Starting with...there are no bridges over the river Amazon.

Wow, this is rare - almost 60 moves each with no inaccuracies from either side!

Friday Puzzle

I returned to the board this week, not playing very well. Won one and lost one.

Sharing a rather clever mate in 2 by Johannes Zukertort! (1869). Don't be fooled, this man knew how to play chess!

They asked me if I had any specific criticisms of the Ghost Train. I said nothing leapt out at me.

I’m not someone who’ll ignore the instruction “digits joined by a crab must sum to 10”. Come on, let’s do this — oh alright, I’ll do it, never mind

Last nights OTB game in full - watch the Black light-squared bishop going Bc8-f5-e6-g4-d7-a4-c2-b1-e4 - quite an adventure in a 30-move game!
