Well versed in both the politics of dancing and the art of parties. Songwriter and vinyl bore. Wild #LFC fanatic and chant-crafter. Proud nephew to two beautiful uncles.
I mean, a Rubik's cube is cliched, but at least it's accurate.

By the same token I think Difford is underrated as a guitarist. I'm on the record as saying his solo on Another Nail in my Heart is the absolute business.

In fairness, handballs like that sometimes get missed: refs make honest mistakes. It's ok to be angry about it that same evening, maybe even the next day, but after that it's time to move on.

The suggestions the FAI made about being an extra team in the finals were frankly embarrassing.

Brilliant lyrics, and a gut punch of a final couple of verses: all human life is here.

Always loved too how they seem to ascend a key for those final verse, yet still end on the same riff in the same key as they open with: a dead clever trick that!

It's funny, your comment about him stripping things back reminded me of something I wrote on here a while ago. We're very much aligned in that belief, it turns out:

I Wonder U—Prince

Know what #Prince was great at? Taking stuff out of the mix to improve a track. He went nuclear here and took his own vocal out, leaving W&L's ghostly harmonies and a bass line with a life of its own. Utterly inspired

Just watched the first episode of The Beast in Me there. Rhys is an absolute hoot. And I loved the use of Let 'em In in the soundtrack: nicely summed up the whole episode really, just a bunch of mad characters knocking at her door!

One of my very favourite songs on the album. I love the sentiment.

I don't think it's spoiling the surprise too much to say that both of those tracks will be featuring a bit higher up this list.

Interestingly, they both have really excellent lyrics, not always his strong point. The opening line of SOTT is one of the best in popular music to my mind.

Funny enough, he used the guitar intro off that on the video of the release. He was so good at extended singles, finding little bars to loop and riff off (which is also why I think he was so good at double albums)

It's the perfect response to a needle dropping.

It's a really ballsy performance from her too. It's a tough song to carry off and she does it beautifully.

😂 Was struggling for a few seconds til the penny dropped.

I'm guessing that's a typo on You Made Me Realise?

Blimey, you must be deaf as a post after that!

I would say his pedal set-up live is a miracle of science!

It's an album I play every Xmas, it's just got this Christmassy vibe (there a riff on there that sounds very much like 'sleep in heavenly peace')

Matthew Rhys is such a talent too. If you haven't watched The Americans I very highly recommend it.

Only Shallow, When you Sleep and To Here Knows When would be my favourites, but there isn't a song on the album that I don't love.

One of my favourites of all time—maybe my very favourite. There isn't a moment on it that I don't love.
