I encourage people to learn how to cook for themselves because firstly, you need to eat, secondly, it's cheap, thirdly it's healthier but there's a fourth reason: some people will experience an overwhelming physical attraction to you if you cook them a good meal.

For people who prefer to get their info via fancy canva-made IG carousel (no judgment!), here's one that summarizes our event and its big takeaways into five main points: www.instagram.com/p/DUOZWCoFZrL

It also includes even more examples of MN artists showing up than what could fit in the article.
Thanks to @convergencemag.com for re-running the piece I wrote that locals might have already read at Racket. For the re-print, the only change I made was to the title: Because yeah I live in MPLS, but the work is also to get ICE out St. Paul, and the suburbs, and the whole state, and everywhere.
How Artists Can Help Get ICE Out of Minneapolis (and Everywhere)
A few takeaways from a 500-person virtual workshop on how artists can show up and meaningfully support organizing in this moment.

This one comes from a time when lines were clear and courage was plainspoken.

It ain’t angry for the sake of noise — it’s steady. It reminds you cruelty burns hot but don’t last, and that ordinary peeps, standing together, outlive it every time.

Sometimes old songs know exactly what to say.

this is day 12. I feel like a tired bag of phlegm. I can only tell my thinking is off when I have a ridiculously hard time with something simple. covid sucks and I’m ready for spring.

new year’s intention: no hair cut until someone buys one of my poems. or I win the lottery, or spring break.

four magazines moved my submissions from Accepted to In Progress!

pretty sure I’m going to end up with extra money or extra long hair.

Perform empathy. Please. Perform the fuck out of it. It's so good to act with kindness. I hope it penetrates to a place where you feel it, too, but if you must act some way, act the right way. I'm not here to judge your authenticity, I just want you to be kind, thoughtful, and mortified by meanness.

🔹Never mock or judge. Defensiveness shuts things down.
🔹Don’t make it personal.
🔹Find common ground. Shared values build connection.
🔹Work together.
🔹Ask, don’t tell. Curiosity opens dialogue.
🔹Lead by example. Model the tone you want.
🔹Focus on why, not what.
🔹And know when to walk away.
