FFFFFFFUUUCCCKKKK.....My first plane for the morning is already delayed. At least I can "sleep in" till 5am

And if I had kept my original flights, the one that was supposed to land an hour ago just took off from ORD.
December 7, 2025 at 10:58 PM
Welp, I was right: ORD is a massive pain in the ass.

Slept like shit last night. Finally got up a bit before 5 to shower. Discovered the locks on my large suitcase were broken.

Switched back to the medium suitcase, dressed, drove to the airport.

In other irritating news, I'm trying to figure out how I want to pack to hedge bets against snow delays and other fuckery leaving ORD.

Thinking checked medium bag, my actual hardside carryon, then backpack "personal item." That's gonna be a PITA at my destination airport tho.

Ah, the useful yet cruel 10x magnifying mirror (lighted, of course). Good for shining a spotlight on those white eyebrow hairs.

Gotta be careful. I don't have that much hair to begin with, and blonde eyebrows are tricky anyway. Pluck too much and it's like I fell out of the 1600s.

Credit card number stolen AGAIN. Same crime ring, same transactions in Houston. This time, they also bought plane tickets.

Spent an hour on the phone with the fraud department.

As this is the 4th time in 12 months, I'm gonna leave the card locked and stop using it.

Tired of this shit.

"How do I do XYZ?!"

Well, if you'd bothered to show up to any of the multiple training sessions held, you'd KNOW how to do this.

I'm trying so hard to be positive. But mostly what I'm positive about is wanting to stab (metaphorically) a significant number of my colleagues.

Yup. Confirmed with boss this morning.

Yet more time devoured by the monster that is Change Management.

I'm happy to educate, to illustrate, to twist myself into a pretzel to get the information out.

What pisses me right the fuck off is people who say, 'I was too busy. Can you walk me through?'

'Tis the season. Property tax season.

Difference between escrow and the newly arrived (15 minutes ago) property taxes? $8.23.

Guess who is driving to the bank after work with a $9 check to zero out the account? That's right: ME.

They're still gonna "adjust" the payment for '26 tho.
Can't wait/S

Got more chicken and an interesting bottle of bitters (but you don't drink anymore. Correct. Stupid perimenopause. But. If a dash of bitters adds something to a 99% non alcoholic drink, I'll try it).

Deck for presentation at huge town hall is updated.

Can focus on the teaching deck next.

#Irritated

People who LIVE in the northern states and somehow are utterly unprepared for winter, then get on the news and act like goddamn morons irritate TF outta me.

Get your head out of your ass. You live in an area where snow is regular.

My shovel has been in my car since early October.

About to break into the vanilla extract I made in January 2022.

Excellent. The stuff I started in winter of 2024 probably won't be touched till 2028. Just found the bottle at the top of the pantry, so gave it a shake.

When I start using that bottle, I'll get beans for a new batch of extract.

I got *some* ornaments on the tree. Did an overflowing hamper of clothing, just got that hanging/into the dryer. Now I need to pick out a tree skirt.

Thinking a mug of cocoa + another nap would be a lovely afternoon. Not gonna even bother going outside till tomorrow afternoon.

A good day to stay inside and put ornaments on the tree. Other stuff is up. Was restrained in what I pulled out, because I want it down and put away on the 26th.

Gonna do another culling of items. Probably have enough to decorate a house 3x the size of mine. Time to pare down.

Curses. The storm track has shifted. Instead of the expected 6-10 inches (which also sucks), the updated forecast is now calling for 10-14 inches. 👎 👎 👎

I think we are going to need more snowblower gas. Gonna fight with the spouse about it some more. He thinks we'll be ok. I don't.

Got the new decor item set up. The holiday "centerpiece" from Costco. Stuck it where the fountain used to be.

Trying to decide exactly what I'm going to haul up this year. Gonna go rat through the containers in the basement.

Tree set up today, but ornaments can wait for the snowstorm tomorrow.

I have organized the leftovers, emptied the dishwasher, almost finished drinking coffee, and am about to head out.

Need to stop at the UPS store to drop off two pairs of shoes, then it is to the grocery store to re-provision the house before the anticipated foot of snow hits tomorrow.

The all tea cranberry jello was good. A bit of the spice from the tea came through.

I used Bigelow Tea Cranberry Harvest... www.amazon.com/dp/B07WVW6FV...

Brining the turkey breasts had an excellent result! Crispy skin & moist meat.

4 cups Mt Olive pickle brine
6 TBSP kosher salt
6 cups cold water
fresh dill, sage, & rosemary

I forgot about garlic, or would have chucked a few cloves in.

Brined 12 hours, then removed & kept in fridge uncovered.

Turkey breast 1, the slightly larger of the two, is done and resting comfortably.

2, the one that was slightly smaller, the one I stuck on the hotter side of the oven, has probably another 15-20 minutes to go.

Glad my carby sides were pre-done. Mashed potatoes & stuffing in the Suvie.

A mediocre holiday breakfast:

ordered a quiche, French toast casserole, and fresh fruit from the local schmancy grocery store.

None of it was awful, but it also didn't "wow." Soggy quiche crust and slightly watery filling. French toast was a bit too dry & too eggy.

I also made bacon.

This is fascinating. And for me, since it isn't a work night tonight, this means I will be back on my bullshit: researching geologic time. It intrigues me.

Gonna brew a cranberry tea and get going. :)

Got my 2 temporary crowns on. Sigh. Now, I just need to be able to KEEP them affixed to my teeth until December 15th.

Looks like a few weeks of very soft foods for me.
