Asked if he thinks Schumer is effective and should keep his job, Hakeem Jeffries replies: "Yes and yes."

Sure why not?
Ah, the Twitter classic. Go nuts.

Just finished reading The Witch and the Tsar by Olesya Salnovika Gilmore. This reimagining of Baba Yaga in the era of Ivan the Terrible is a solidly woven love letter to Slavic mythology even if it has a bit of an off pacing. 4 stars.

Average Democratic voter at this point HATES the party leadership.
I think Senate folders are significantly underestimating how fucking angry Democratic voters are at them

Just finished The Bewitching by Silvia Moreno Garcia. Some of the structural choices were questionable, characters weren’t too deep and the way things played out felt pretty predictable, but I had fun. 3.75 stars

I feel like we have the opportunity to turn David Lynch's quote into this moment's "Keep Calm and Carry On" and it's a far better rallying cry too.

Ran a national debt simulator to show how you can’t really reduce the deficit without tax increases and one kid managed to balance the budget by setting the upper middle class income tax bracket to 178%.

Decided to bring together lingering Samhain energies with yesterday’s full moon to do something to help open up my intuition and awareness.

Finished Katabasis by RF Kuang. I really liked this book and thought it wove together a lot of interesting philosophical concepts and mythologies. I was hooked throughout even if it did sometimes feel a bit pretentious (which I think was deliberate). 4.5 stars.

For fun I did a tarot pull about elections today and I got

VA GOV: The Emperor
VA LG: The Magician
VA AG: Four of Wanda
NJ GOV: The Lovers
NYC Mayor: The Tower
Prop 50: Wheel of Fortune

Which is…interesting.

Think the NYC one might be more about the response to results.

This isn't a closing election argument, it's Vidkun Quisling explaining why surrender is better than resistance.

The more I see about the Baileys and their perpetual influence on Schumer the more I wonder if Chuck accidentally made himself bound to the whims of a pair of egregores he created.
reading about Young Chuck is fascinating

Ultimately this is a pretty naive take. Yes, some of the Tea Party (including many founders) were mainly invested in small government and fiscal conservatism but the real core of it ls large rise was racial animus and nativism that comfortably assimilated Tea Partiers into the wider MAGA movement.
Just a few years after the tea party movement, the Republican Party was captured by the MAGA movement and President Trump, whose agenda, to some tea party pioneers, is the opposite of theirs and which dominates the party today.
In Trump’s GOP, the once-mighty tea party is hard to find
Since the movement upended politics 15 years ago, Republicans have sharply changed direction under MAGA — with many tea party veterans along for the ride.

Just finished I Am Legend by Richard Matheson. This vampire apocalypse story is interesting in premise but unfortunately the short length makes the story less compelling overall. 3.5 stars.

I also read My Darling Dreadful Thing by Johanna Van Veen. This gothic romance with horror elements was overall compelling, but I was expecting one more confrontation of some sort and a bit more clarity in the ending. 3.75 stars

Just finished Cold Eternity by S.A. Barnes. This sci-fi horror story does a good job of creating tension and creeping dread with a more original monster than I expected. 4.5 stars.

Just finished We Sold Our Souls by Grady Hendrix. This was a nice love letter to the metal genre as well as a more unique twist to the classic ‘rock star sells his soul for fame’ trope. I binge read it in about two days so I feel like I have to give it 4.5 stars.

Just watched all The Conjuring movies I hadn’t seen (movies 2-4) and damn it’s crazy how the order is also a quality ranking.

2 is pretty good, Devil Made Me Do It is kinda boring and Last Rites is a M E S S.
