don't buy gta vi, that goes without saying. what does not go without saying is how funny it is that in a month, the gap between gta v and gta vi will match the gap between avatar and avatar: the way of water

oh hey one more thing about Jer's Game of the Year: Daemon x Machina: Titanic Scion: colon:

You can basically be NB although the game doesn't CALL it that, per se. You can, for example, pick a "female" body, "male" voice, and then pick an androgynous face and give yourself a cool punk hairdo. BAM.

You're already wearing power armor, then you hop on a cool motorcycle, and then the motorcycle can transform into more power armor OVER your already existing power armor and it has like, long arm looking thingies that are actually giant dual laser cannons like the main guns on the Macross!!

I saw in the Kawamori interview him talking about designing a new transforming motorcycle for Titanic Scion but good lord, I did not understand how damn cool it was going to be.

These games are gonna be streamed! @worldsofzzt.bsky.social will be streaming some of them this coming Friday and Sunday (mine will be Sunday). Official judge @raycerxdj.bsky.social will be streaming some too, possibly on Monday?

Both When There Is No More Snow and Cyber Punk Janitor are set in Michigan. I was born there and spent the first 14 years of my life there. I've been in California forever, but Michigan is a huge part of my upbringing for better or worse. I went there this summer and took lots of pics for the game!

I will work on it more. I'll do the music and SFX first and then implement the scenes I cut, but not until after all the Oktrollberfest streaming and judging is over! This was also partially a dry run for the methods I'm using on my prequel to When There Is No More Snow, When Does Summer Begin.
November 4, 2025 at 11:23 PM
I did the art assets for several sequences I had to cut due to lack of time (cleaning up the locker room, cleaning up a murder scene, your boss catching you at the bar after you quit work early) but I'm pretty satisfied with it. I kept finding faster and faster methods as I worked.

Except for the photos of custom action figures, I mostly made the 3D character models in Fuse, rigged them in Mixamo, and staged them in Unity and took screenshots, then did the Zima conversion, MZX editing, and Paint Dot Net editing of that. It was kind of a complicated toolchain because I'm dumb.
November 4, 2025 at 11:14 PM
Some the backgrounds are based on 3D assets I purchased on the asset store or turbosquid or whatever and then staged in Unity and/or Unreal Engine (yes I did use UE a bit in my process of making a game in Unity).

I also wanted to implement sound effects and again, I had a number of them ready to go, but didn't have to implement them in the game. I figured text and visuals had to be the priority, since it's a visual novel, after all!
November 4, 2025 at 11:09 PM
I had a number of songs I had previously written that I wanted to implement in the game but I ran out of time, so even though the songs exist, the game doesn't play them. I just have the title screen theme song in it now, and that's the one song that's not really finished.

I also wanted to recreate the art at different sizes if it needed to be scaled up in game but I kind of ran out of time (the jam lasted one month, extended by 3 days) and just scaled art up and down a number of places. It also made it way easier and faster to do animations, so please forgive me.

I was originally trying to stick to MegaZeux palette restrictions (16 color EGA) and I sort of did, but basically each sprite and/or background has its own 16 color palette, which is not really sticking with MZX restrictions or pure EGA ASCII, but too bad.
November 4, 2025 at 11:04 PM
I also used Zedit2 by Lancer a tiny bit to create ASCII gradients. After editing by hand in MegaZeux, I took screenshots and then edited the screenshots in Paint Dot Net, then upscaled them to 1080p and then put them in the game!
November 4, 2025 at 11:02 PM
I created the game in Unity with the Naninovel plugin. I created art by making 3D models and and/or taking photos of dolls posing them or in some cases, photographs of the real world. Then I converted them to ASCII graphics using Zima by @asie.pl and did a lotta editing in @megazeux.bsky.social!

I have builds for Windows x64, x86, Linux, Android, and iOS. The two Windows builds, Android, and Linux have all been tested working but I am totally clueless when it comes to iOS and I have no idea if that will work or not. Maybe someone could try it out and let me know?
November 4, 2025 at 10:58 PM
P.S. I just bought the standard PS5 edition but it came with a printed manual! That's pretty rare these days.

And I should also say that your Arsenal (the term for these robot suits) is way more power armor than a giant robot.
October 30, 2025 at 5:19 PM
You poke around the world, finding treasure chests with chips or whatever in them that to upgrade your robot suit, a lot like Nier Automata.
October 30, 2025 at 5:18 PM
You have a cute robot sidekick wearing a hoodie that reminds me of the cute robots in a Nier Automata. You also have a gruff old man repair guy hanging out with you too.
October 30, 2025 at 5:17 PM
The world so far is kind of all de-saturated and desert-y and reminds me a lot of the desert from Automata. The moment to moment fighting is less like AC and more Nier like with a bigger emphasis on melee, plus you have your giant sword(s) floating behind you.
October 30, 2025 at 5:16 PM
I assumed Titanic Scion would be more of the same, which I was excited for! It's not! Instead it's kind of like Armored Core meets Nier Automata.
October 30, 2025 at 5:10 PM
Daemon X Machina: Titanic Scion came out last month and while I loooooved the first game, I didn't play this until last night, largely because I've been super focused on my game jam. But I played it tonight and it's NOT at ALL what I thought it would be!
