Lay minister for church meeting in a seniors’ residence, MA (LTS) from Regent College Vancouver, knitter, quilter, baker, Mom, Grandma, proud Canadian.
Press reporting ‘a vehicle drove into the crowd celebrating a Phillipino festival in Vancouver.’ It did not. A car was driven intentionally by a human being with a twisted agenda. A person chose to harm a community that has brought love and joy to Canada.

Making it up as I went along: my new favourite bread creation is Cardamom fruit bread with tea biscuits made from dough left over from shaping the loaves. So good: now if I can just remember what I did. #BakingSky #Bread

Hey #quiltsky: appliqué generally isn’t my jam, BUT my son and his partner are opening a new Garden Centre in Nanaimo and their logo looks like it could be an appliqued banner. Am I nuts? Any suggestions for techniques? How much harder would it be to just do the arch shape? (And how to hang it?)

Homemade English muffins are so much better, especially sourdough from #KingArthurBaking, but all the rolling and cutting circles then re-rolling is fussy. An aha! moment: who says they have to be round? Roll out. Trim on all sides, cut into rectangles. Finish as usual. So good! #baking #sourdough

My son and son-in-law painted our bedroom while we were away (what a great Christmas gift!) After years of bright sunny gold, the moody dark teal is taking some getting used to, but it’s beautiful with Sampler of Psalms and Car parts quilts. #quiltsky

Advent quilt 21: saving the best for last. This is my favourite of all the Christmas quilts: King David’s Crown from The Word in Patchwork. I played with transparency within a controlled scrap palette. 1/2 #quiltsky

Advent quilt 20…and now for something completely different. We made two of these ‘ugly quilts’ from shower curtains, donated comforters and flannel sheets. Tied with yarn, edges sewn together with the serger. Given to folks sleeping rough. #quiltsky 1/2

Christmas quilt 19— Christmas prints scrounged from my friends Dot and Judy’s scrap bins: Judy died in 2011. It’s on the design wall 13 years later! I pulled the pieces from a shoe box, added more from my own and friend Idonna’s scraps and now it’s ready to assemble for 2025. #quiltsky

Advent quilt 18 — sometimes simple is better. Quick easy project for a beginner’s class Christmas project. Center square is cut 8 1/2”; strips cut 2 1/2”, cornerstones 2 1/2” square. #quiltsky

One of the less successful mystery quilts so popular in the 90s. (I no longer remember the pattern source…very forgettable!) But it’s super warm, really heavy in all flannels. Who needs a weighted blanket? Perfect for nesting on a cold winter night, despite its weird sizing (65x85ish) #quiltsky

Advent quilt #16–once again not strictly a seasonal quilt, but a birthday gift for our Granddaughter Trinity who missed being born on her Dad’s (and Grandpa’s) birthday by only a couple of days. Warm Wishes by McCall’s Quilting is easily my favourite quick and easy pattern. 56”x 70” #quiltsky

15th Advent quilt: another non-Christmas quilt. It belongs to our eldest who was also born on December 13th, his Dad’s best birthday present ever! His 40th birthday quilt features photo transfers of his family. Closeups in comments. #quiltsky 1/2

Advent quilt 14 not for Christmas but my sweetheart’s Dec 13 birthday. He’s a tinkerer: early in our marriage I yelled at him for taking a car radio apart on our bed: “NO Car parts on the bed!” 40 yrs later, I used Route 66 fabric to make him a ‘car-parts on the bed’ quilt! 80”x 120” #quiltsky

Advent quilt #13 is a super quick project: a cushion cover for the pillow that lives on our bedroom chair. Jewel Box pattern, top is quilted to batting only, the back is two pieces overlapping at the centre by 3” so no zipper is needed. #quiltsky

Advent quilt#12 table centre 28” diameter. Not just a Christmas quilt, though the colors fit with seasonal decor. Second photo shows the focus fabric back (love me some paisley!)…sadly, you can see the front is fading somewhat from the skylight directly above the ottoman where it lives. #quiltsky

Advent quilt #11: tree skirt. This is not completely successful: I used velvet squares from the Christmas stockings. A couple of them bled quite badly when our elderly cat had an accident on the skirt so it had to be washed. We strategically place presents to hide the stains. #quiltsky

Advent quilt # 10 star of hope placemats: set of 6–3 green, 3 red. Machine pieced and quilted 12”x18”. Second photo is back and focus fabric. #quiltsky

Advent 9 Cross and Crown adapted from an old McCall’s Quilting magazine. This quilt has a backstory of destruction and painstaking repair 1/2 #quiltsky

#Quiltsky My favorite tip for quilt teachers and for your own quilt kits/studio: keep wrapped period pads with your rulers and cutters. They’re sanitary, highly absorbent, and because of the adhesive strip, one will stick to itself when you wrap it around a cut finger or hand.

Advent 8: Rolling wreaths table runner. (One wreath for each candle in an advent wreath). Rolling Stone block from ‘Word in Patchwork’. 16”x80”. Machine pieced and quilted, with ‘snowflake’ motif in setting triangles. #Quiltsky

Very good advice for pastors too: in my context, this is my first response as parishioners report conflict with one another. “Do you think there’s something else going on that isn’t focused on you?”
