Franzi Schimmer captured this Grizzly bear in Brooks Falls, Alaska just floating along, tippy-tapping down the river, browsing the salmon.

Prior to hibernation, up to 40% of a bear's body mass is fat, which is less dense than water (~0.9 g/cm^2), so the murder-monster is also a floaty-boaty.

New #paleoart at #Patreon for #FossilFriday: Caudipteryx encounters a frozen lake, is unsure, prob. makes wee bokking noises as its feet slide apart hilariously.

Lots of discussion about the colour data of this animal in my Patreon post. www.patreon.com/posts/149439...

Here's Phil Foglio's 1983 cover for Robert Asprin's Hit or Myth.

The model for the demon was Foglio's friend Greg Ketter, owner of Dreamhaven Books in Minneapolis, who was recently photographed walking through tear gas at age 70 to protest the ongoing ICE invasion

A special commission off the loom. Enough warp for another, as the warp took a week to wind! It’s all wound by hand- no painted warps or space dyed yarn here, just thread and a little science. I love putting all the colour into the warp- it tends to give a more elegant result.

In my question to build the East Asian Catalog, there was a sore lack of any miniature books.

Until now.

Here's the tiniest copy of the Hyakunin Isshu I've ever seen in my life. Printed Circa 1750-1800, and under 3 inches in size. It even comes with a contemporary lacquerware case!

It's been 70 years since griffon vultures disappeared from the skies over Romania. They're coming back, starting with relocated birds from Spain.

Vulture releases are some of the most important rewilding projects out there. More please.

A small wonder today was recognizing how filthy cities were in the 60s and 70s. In that regard we’re doing better.

Australia's humpback whales are doing so well that their population is expected to reach carrying capacity and plateau in the near future--they have not just reached but exceeded pre-whaling numbers. For this to happen with such a long-lived, slow-reproducing species is near miraculous. #goodnews
These whales were hunted to 150 individuals. Now there are 50,000 of them
Once hunted almost to extinction, the population of humpback whales currently migrating down Australia's east coast has bounced back and is now greater than before whaling.
