I could tell that he wasn’t at full strength or talent, but let’s be honest - Doc at 50% can still outplay most of us at 100%. And to do it well into his 90s…

Just retired from public performance not that long ago. I saw him with the Minnesota Orchestra for his 90th. 16 tunes, and he played, sang, and/or conducted on 15 of them. End of the first half hit a sustained E-flat 6 (concert) with that fat, warm sound.
