My AI safety bill received final Senate passage & is on its way to the Governor!

SB 53 requires large AI labs to be transparent about their safety protocols, creates whistleblower protections for employs at AI labs & creates a public cloud to expand compute access (CalCompute).

Our legislation to ban federal & local law enforcement from extreme masking (SB 627) just received final sign-off from the Senate & is on its way to the Governor.

Law enforcement wearing ski masks isn’t normal. We don’t need or want secret police in California. Enough.

The Legislature passed my resolution (SJR 1) mass rescinding California’s various calls over the years for a Constitutional Convention.

While the Constitution could be improved in many ways, risking a Constitutional Convention at this moment in time is dangerous for our democracy & basic rights.

It‘s such a nice change of pace for a majority of Democrats on the Prince William Board of County Supervisors to vote to defeat a data center rezoning request.

I’m pleasantly surprised and quite pleased to see the Bristow rezoning request fail last night.

In a rare move, Democrats representing eastern Prince William County joined Republicans in voting down the project.
