Happy Beethoven's baptismal day to all those who don't celebrate his birthday because we're not certain when it is.

Lady Susan is wild. Miss Austen never fails to amuse me, even at 18 years old.

I’m 83.33% through with my Jane Austen reading for her 250th birthday. Only Persuasion left.

#A-Schubert-A-Day Day 52 now catching up with a second post today, making up for the missed post yesterday! 'Gretchen am Spinnrade', D118, 18 October 1814. Goethe's sense of yearning absolutely translates into the song fully here. www.hyperion-records.co.uk/dw.asp?dc=W2...

I’m somehow grateful to my twenty years younger self for letting me discover Schubert at 40+.

Do I love Everyman's Library editions? I do. Am I refraining from buying any new books? I am.

I lived to celebrate your 100th birthday half a life ago and the 50th anniversary of your death today. Большое спасибо, Дмитрий Дмитриевич. You touched the lives of so many.

#A-Schubert-A-Day starts today. I am attempting to listen through the complete Hyperion Schubert Song edition, one song per day until there are no more. I have no idea how sustainable this will be, but I am going to give it a try.

Random thought: I cannot decide whether the soundtrack to my version of Woland’s Ball should be Ravel’s La Valse or Khachaturian’s Masquerade Waltz.

Moments later: The Master and Margarita is playing at the cinema next door.

I wish (musical) heaven existed, so Brahms and Tchaikovsky could share a bottle of wine this evening. Sigh.
