A study led by WEHI and @onjcri.org.au has uncovered a new way to track heterogeneous breast cancer cells as they metastasise to secondary organs.

The findings could lead to a powerful new tool to study the complexity of metastatic breast cancer.

New WEHI research shows caspase-8 is a driver of severe COVID-19 through modulation of inflammation, but not through induction of apoptosis. 

The landmark study is the first to clarify the protein's role in COVID disease in vivo.

WEHI & icddr_b have secured a $4m grant for a clinical trial in Bangladesh testing oral tranexamic acid (TXA) to reduce heavy menstrual bleeding in adolescent girls. 41% miss school due to periods. TXA is low-cost, boosts haemoglobin & improves quality of life.

A WEHI-led study shows ctDNA testing can detect residual disease post-surgery and predict recurrence risk – guiding chemo decisions for stage 3 colon cancer patients.

Dr Cavan Bennett’s discovery linking iron regulation to polycythaemia vera (PV) is driving real-world change. He found that high hepcidin levels reduce red blood cell production, leading to clinical trials of a new drug: Divesiran.
