How hard do you think mass collaboration really is? Without gatekeeping and sabotage probably not hard at all.
Understanding we can't rely on existing entities to do the right thing without pressure doesn't depress me. This only drives me to see what happens with increased public attention & participation.

Although, just as doctor's failed under tobacco company pressure, we have petitions, lawmakers, & unions, which don't seem to be comfortable applying real pressure at the root of the AI exploitation. With how weak SAG-AFTRA is in this area, I think they're practically prescribing us unethical AI.

Purely on weighing the dangers vs the benefits alone. From looking at the technologies they are heavily limited by their training data. If realistic pictures, video, & audio of humans are removed from inputs & training data, then the outputs will at best look like oil paintings.

How audio & video evidence are suspect in courts & how AI is already jeopardizing judicial outcomes. Shouldn't these known problems with current genAI capabilities be enough to where we look at what training data & inputs allow for these capabilities & criminalize their use?

With AI, we're at the stage where public citizen describes its use for CSAM, impersonating officials, swaying voters, defrauding consumers by mimicking people or institutions & exploiting creators. Where they warn about AI's potential for inciting violence in ways which are difficult to stop.

Then, "in 1948 the links between smoking & lung cancer were becoming apparent. Cigarette manufacturers disputed this evidence, as part of an orchestrated conspiracy to salvage cigarette sales."

When I think about AI exploitation & regulation I can't help but to think about the cigarette industry & their long history of avoiding regulation. They were so effective at propaganda & lobbying they had doctor's prescribing cigarette's without proper research.

Even for CSAM & NCII, "some survivors have found that the fastest way to get content removed is by filing copyright claims, a tactic those working in the online safety industry say is inadequate."

Many people are using one predatory system to challenge another, when there seem to be other options to thwart the same exploitive generative AI through legal challenges.

idea credit rights need far more recognition & need to start being applied to the originator, not the copyright or patent holders." Those who look into the history of copyright with an open mind understand how predatory the system is.

& filled also with creative people who died in poverty & anonymity because they did not have the gift of self promotion. While intellectual property rights need to be abolished, as they are inhibiting progress & being used as a tool of inappropriate permanent economic control & intimidation,

On the subject of copyright from author Heather Marsh, "Copyright and patent laws which are structured to ensure fame & profit for those that can afford the fees & are quickest to file forms have created a society & a history filled with people celebrated for creations they did not originate

Some of the most well received petitions on AI exploitation offer impressive responses to existing deepfakes & non-consensual media. Yet, they are too vague to properly address this specific AI exploitation at the root of the problem. Most prominent legal challenges to AI rely on copyright.

SAG-AFTRA union has one of the best reputations in being creator focused, but there's well publicized loopholes & grossly ineffective protections for AI exploitation in their current contracts.

Vague language seems to leave room for frivolous takedown requests of legal content. One promising tool to aid victims looking into takedown requests is victim led Alecto AI founded by revenge porn survivor, Breeze Liu. Although, in downloading their app, the functionality currently seems modest.

Both in terms of who to follow & of who to platform news about.

Even the popular streamer from Turkey seems completely aimless in every stream of his I see. If you intake hours of someone's content & you don't see merit for why they're at the top, & if you can't point to intentional ways they use their platform for actionable change, then there's better options.
February 8, 2026 at 11:19 PM
There's no good reason why some wow streamer with such low self-esteem they have sunglasses in their pfp is so talked about in political streams. There's no good reason to platform similarly harmful voices through debates.

Many knowledgable veterans described soldiers behavior during Trump's military parade in D.C. as "malicious compliance." If you think Trump is fascist, then choosing to show the video of him unhappy with the silently protesting soldiers is a potentially motivating use of broadcast time.

As are many people who draft & coach speeches of other prominent members & supporters of his administration. No one's making you platform their speeches or repeat their meticulously worded manipulation verbatim. You can summarize their words & their speeches instead.

Despite his age, sometimes Trump is still charismatic enough to rile up his followers through propagandized speech. The people who edit & draft posts for his social media are equally effective at empowering his follower base though propaganda.

As fascism rises, bettering political content creators is only more necessary. Not every second needs to be intentional, but at the same time we should be careful about when & why we choose to platform notoriously manipulative people.
February 8, 2026 at 11:19 PM
The history of disruptive activists being retaliated against in ways big & small is also hard to ignore & possibly fear inducing for streamers. Maybe they don't regularly ask themselves if what they're doing is platforming propaganda.
