From a non-vetted source, hay bales can sometimes self ignite. Hopefully that and not something malicious , supposedly started around midnight.

I can say hay bales put off a lot of smoke!

Turns out it was a big stack of rolled hay bales that caught fire on a farm about 8 miles away. This was an air quality report from the area ,

Not great for a while.

Apparently hay bale fires are a thing. Reportedly stacks of rolled hay bales combusted (spontaneously?) and are hard to put out. No chance to turn into a wildfire 👍 but lots of smoke. It’s out and clear now 🙏

Wohoo, but still waiting for the map you handed out to guide a few down here… they should wait until tomorrow though.

Ha! I saw your irises this morning. I have not been able to get them going here (Douglas irises)

Lifting inversion sounds likely, there’s a slight breeze now and the haze is rising from San Pasqual valley up to our little side valley. It’s nasty out. Photo is not really picking up the smoke very well. Still fog but now more smoke than fog.

Oh yeah! Here’s a photo from May 9, nearing the end and seeds are forming.

Hmm, midnight. I guess the wind just recently shifted from the south east and now the smoke is drifting here. Could not smell it at 7am.

It looks and smells like it all of a sudden. Watch Duty shows very bad air quality just west of the Wild Animal Park just south of 78.

Smoke on top of the fog…

It’s not prime environment for them, hot and south facing but a couple patches are starting to come up. Mostly from seed. 👍😎
It’ll be a blue spring 💙
