This is your city on driverless cars.

A blackout in San Francisco yesterday cut power to traffic lights. Drivers coped; Waymos just stopped moving, often in intersections, stranding passengers and compounding gridlock.

Too nice a day to run inside. I was hoping the trails in ODell would be clear, but it was a skating rink on the main trail into the park. Canceled that idea and went through Sunshine and water front instead.

GNB homelessness strategy, A Path Home, is an earnest and well-intentioned plan. It is thoughtful, compassionate. It reflects modern thinking.

The problem is not the diagnosis.

It’s that the strategy not calibrated to the moment we are in. #fredericton #nbpoli

That’s my expectation. It begs the question why CMHC needs to provide capital in the first place given private capital markets exist. I am now curious if state-funding for private (non public) housing is common in the G20.

This 4th level of government is expensive and I question the value after several full years since a rushed regionalization was brought in by the former provincial government.

What happened with these transfers was a transfer of funding from urban to rural.

Just incredible. #Fredericton

Thanks for reading and engaging. It’s through listening and having healthy conversations we make meaningful changes. On this file, those can’t come soon enough. We are failing an entire segment of our society through inaction.

“Forest Hill did not simply emerge as the best choice. The process was structured to make it the logical endpoint.”

We need to move on CSTF recommendations before the next site is ‘chosen’.

Forest Hill Was the Outcome, Not the Evaluation
GNB’s consideration of sites for temporary housing has exposed a sequencing failure: sites were selected before safety and planning criteria were defined.

Later in the agenda is an update from #Fredericton Police on expansion of service areas and an update on drugs.

The amount of Meth seized has more than doubled in 2025 vs. 2024. For the first time, Fentanyl seizures overtaking Cocaine seizures suggesting a changing market.

We need stronger laws.

It’s City of #Fredericton budget night. Before they get started, two things stood out in the budget book.

1) The near doubling of the residential property assessments since 2016. Some is related to annexation in 2024, but not all. +

Safety shouldn’t be negotiated. If one neighbourhood gets enhanced security, every neighbourhood should. Consistency builds trust; inconsistency erodes it.

When safety becomes a negotiation, trust erodes.
Neighborhoods shouldn’t have to fight for safety. Enhanced security must be the baseline for all shelters and transitional housing — not a last-minute promise.
