There are several important things to me about doing this work. It is one component of a larger set of practices that I'm leaning into, that importantly, is not work I'm going to do alone.

Another one, "Share a situation when you made yourself the hero, while your words/behavior aligned more with being a villain." I shared some examples of me doing that.

For example, for one prompt, we were asked, "Review your CV/resume and share every role you received that you were not qualified for at the time." I named jobs I got where I was given the benefit of the doubt when others would not have received the same treatment.

We are asked to reflect and share our experiences and be able to connect them to the designed systems, institutions, and policies that benefit us at the exclusion of others.

This December 6th, we will be holding a free online event. Our cohort will be there to dig into and share what these facilitated conversations entail and why we feel that doing this work is a critical practice required to build communities of enduring value.
We have these facilitated conversations not as a book club, but to process and deeply understand how white supremacy shapes every system, institution, and policy in our world, and truly inspecting and engaging with how we've interacted and benefited from such constructs over the course of our lives.

I'd like to spend a moment reflecting on the participation side of this, because I am participating in this cohort led by Kim.
I just wrapped up the first live session of Mediocre with the participants in Facilitated Conversations with Kim Crayton, and I have to admit something: I didn’t expect to leave this session feeling hopeful.
