(Yes, those last 2 images are from a post where they "identify as" not an oppressor and unironically believe that if you can choose your own gender identity then you can choose whether or not your actions have tangible harm on other people and yes they genuinely think that's a gotcha.)

It was also immediately available on game pass, so there's about 8 gazillion potential lost sales there. Frankly, I have to imagine a SMALL game releasing on game pass is almost worse than just being pirated, because people aren't gonna play it and go "Wow I gotta buy this!", they "have it" already

To a T is cute but. If he thought it would bankroll his entire existence he was delusional. It's a childrens book in video game format, which is cute, but there's no apparent target audience, and it's not particularly "a video game", and it's not experimental enough to draw in observers.

Then offer a higher priced version with no extras, or with extras that can be earned otherwise but you get immediately.

You cannot tell people "hey don't buy our game yet it's not good enough we're sorry" and also"but if you do buy it and pay way too much we will give you stuff you'll otherwise never be able to get! Hurry up you have 4 weeks to commit!!!" and not get called on it being predatory.

Pre-order bonuses are predatory, outright. If the content is never available any other way, it's predatory marketing and it's maliciously designed microtransaction. "other games do it worse" isn't a defense of the practice. The devs are actively telling you not to buy this game, it's too unfinished.

It's a very strange and rare example of the second game being *technically* better in every way, but ultimately a much less interesting game to actually play, which is a shame, because I would kill for more Dark Cloud. Take the original, give it new towns and enemies and weapons, and it'd be enough!
