I love to cook, but I usually use a recipe. Tonight, I came up with my own for ground turkey, vegetables, and noodles, and it was delicious!

I was bored and cold and gave up after about an hour and drove home. The aurora finally provided a naked eye show around 11pm that night, but I was already in my warm bed because I had to teach the next morning. Aurora is neat, but give me storms any day

On that cold Sunday night, I drove half an hour east into a dark cornfield because I only saw city lights, even on long camera exposures, closer to town. I shot 30 second exposures into a pitch dark northern sky, and came away with this, but saw nothing with my eyes.

Stick a fork in it locally tonight. The cirrus clouds expanded rapidly in the last half hour.
November 13, 2025 at 2:15 AM
If we're going to see the aurora again tonight in Champaign-Urbana, we have about another hour before the denser cirrus fills in. The clouds are moving roughly parallel to I-74.

No aurora as of 5pm CST

Aurora are possible again tonight, but need to watch high clouds possibly overspreading Illinois this evening. As of now, they don't look too bad, but the best bet is likely right after sunset
