As to those “others [that] are being explored” — HRRRCast v2 is just about ready to go, with more variables and levels in the training (and thus the output), to be followed quickly by v3, a true 3-km AI model. More soon!

My family got cable when I was about 6 years old. I couldn't stop watching The Weather Channel and realized that I loved weather and wanted to be a meteorologist. Several years into graduate school, I was a Dynamics I TA and ran the labs and realized that I wanted to teach meteorology.

The flash flooding threat has increased this afternoon across South-Central Texas, including the city of Del Rio and the Edwards Plateau region. A couple of rounds of rainfall with high rates makes it possible that 3-5 inches of rain could fall with some locally heavier amounts certainly possible.

A “lost” tornado from 2011 was surveyed and confirmed 14+ years later by NWS Birmingham. They wrote, “It is important to correct the record for both accuracy and credibility.”
