clarification no one asked for: actually it's from a 35mm "answer" print, which is prior to theatrical print in the process

im not sure why i QT'd my response lol bsky.app/profile/matt...
not my encode, to be clear, but for the layman "4k restoration" refers to the resolution the restoration was done at, mostly useful for differentiating different transfers/treatments. many 4k restorations receive (at first, normally) only an official 1080p BD release
for the layman, why encode the 4k restoration at 576p, whats the decision making here

this is somewhat of a "rescue" restoration, as it is a 4k transfer of a 35mm print, not from negative

including this one, I should say! it only got a 1080p BD release despite being a "4k" restoration. I chose to download/upload this encode because frankly I didn't think the image quality on the 1080 looked very good and wanted to upload something fast. Sample screenshots from the disc here

kind of the beginning and end of my analysis for this shit now is when mr INVENTOR OF CYBERPUNK saw the first promo images from cyberpunk 2077 and said basically "huh. yeah not really for me"

they're amazing, not only for the content of course, but as one of the few examples of medium-specific Works from the DVD era. trying to experience them in any other way than actually navigating and engaging with the menus isn't the experience at all
