It’s been a while since I’ve seen it, but the car chase in The Bourne Supremacy still stands out in my mind as one of the greatest.

9. Tron: Ares. I liked it! Loved the red color palette, and liked the conservative use of callbacks. Jared Leto was better than expected. Story is a fairly rote “AI gains sentience” idea we’ve seen a million times, but I can’t deny this flick looks slick.

8. Terminator 2D: No Fate. A lovely throwback to classic side-scrollers. It’s intuitive, got a decent variety, and each level is short. Game is a little too short, and the last handful of levels up the difficulty dramatically, but had a lot of fun playing this.

7. Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery. Rian Johnson nails it again. Almost as good as the first film. Love the commentary on faux-intellectual rich folks. Only knock for me is that virtually half the film rehashes what we’ve already seen to add in vital context. Loses a little steam for me. But fun!

6. Knives Out. I haven’t seen this since theaters, and I forgot just how good this film is. Daniel Craig is marvelous. The film unravels its mysteries like an onion, and when one mystery is answered another takes its place. It’s such a smart flick. Rian Johnson cooked with this one.

It was like watching it again for the first time!

5. Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora: From the Ashes. I’m a huge fan of the original game, but the new DLC is the equivalent of a full-length game and it is wonderful! The switch away from first-person actually worked, and the story is solid. Really great stuff from Ubisoft here.

4. Tron: Legacy. Such a weird franchise, although I like this one better than the first. This is a vibes movie, and the music is exquisite. But I found the characters mostly weak and the story lackluster. Wanted to love it, but just couldn’t get there.

3. Gabby’s Dollhouse: The Movie. Our first family movie night of 2026, and of course Sofia picked this. I can’t get over how great this movie is, given the source material. A true love letter to the show, and perfect for kids about to age out of the series. Very funny too!

2. Stranger Things: Season 5. They really stuck the ending! Had some points that felt a bit contrived, and the finale’s epilogue felt a bit too indulgent, but overall a rock solid season. The Mindflayer looked incredible! Always sad to say goodbye, but happy for the ride. I BELIEVE.

1. Marvel Cosmic Invasion. A very fun beat-em-up that feels like a delightful throwback. Loved the mix of classic and obscure characters. Just wish it was a bit longer. I played through the entire game with my daughter, making this the first video game she’s ever beaten!

This is why I’m Sofia’s biggest cheerleader. She tells me she wants to be an astronaut, we are off to the planetarium and reading space books every night. She wants to be an engineer, and we have more LEGO sets than humanly possible. Whatever she wants to do, I’ll support her. That’s being a dad.

Now that Sofia is four, I understand how raising a kid is such a high-wire act. My dad wasn’t being malicious when he said that, he was just… idk, being flippant or pissy. And yet, it is THE singular core memory I have of him. I often wonder what if he had instead nurtured my love of drawing.
