yep— it's rent with the added cost of responsibility of the home (repairs, insurance, etc.)
yikes

Yeah it's wild how asymptotically even a 30 yr mortgage is to something like interest only. 50 year is even worst

I think it's not a hard argument to make that anything past 30yr mortgage is practically an 'infinite mortgage'

For the record, I've only skimmed the Oolong paper above

But I immediately started thinking of this other paper about long conversations with LLMs arxiv.org/abs/2509.09677

Oh ok now I'm into it— as a dad, I never have enough groan-inducing jokes in my back pocket

Interesting, I had never heard of Penguins before

My wife first introduced me to Tim Tams way back when we were not even dating yet on her trip to Australia. Immediately loved them but realized at the time they weren't really in the US. Now I actually see them pretty frequently!

You sold me on Q&A of 30 minutes!

I would always hate when they either cut out Q&A off or the audio changes for a talk's recording. I feel that's where some extra interesting bits pop up :D

Nice— I like to call that 'Tim Tam style'

Awesome! I think if you're getting sidetracked into digging deeper you're doing it right :D

It's well written w/o only focusing on theory. Felt like that's usually how deep learning has been where the "practitioner's guide" lags behind the theory— Sebastian does a great job filling that gap w/ LLMs

They're on Bluesky!
In my opinion, @sebastianraschka.com makes some of just the best educational stuff on LLMs! I had recommended that 'Build a Large Language Model (From Scratch)' before to my brother going from SWE to MLE— they said it was the one that really helped them the most!

I think it's generally not a bad rule of thumb to avoid bringing up work in conversations as long as possible

Don't get me wrong, I **love** talking about my field & work. But it's such an easy default that it can be a good exercise to see what else you can talk about first

Total agree— that trailing comma has caused too many annoying failures

We are truly blessed in the land of snakes; Python is not perfect but those small practical features can be so beautiful

They speak truth but no one will listen :'(

I don't care what folks say, but comments are so useful for present & future code readers

Now where's the guy w/ the sign for 'leading commas in SQL SELECT'?

That is beautiful & I must have that mug

Definitely some precise targeting advertising

They are stinking adorable! So that's not surprising XD
November 2, 2025 at 6:41 PM
Haha that definitely has been their energy all morning since 4:40 XD

I've only just started playing 😅
I did get to water & steam plants for electricity but I was focusing on the *fundamentals* to get a feel for things

To be fair, this is a lot of fun for both parents & kids. We can provide for this as necessary
