Yeah it's wild how asymptotically even a 30 yr mortgage is to something like interest only. 50 year is even worst
I think it's not a hard argument to make that anything past 30yr mortgage is practically an 'infinite mortgage'

I've only just started playing 😅
I did get to water & steam plants for electricity but I was focusing on the *fundamentals* to get a feel for things

I've been playing Factorio this morning while my 5yr olds watched, suggested things I do, and did 'hair salon' with me

How did I utilize my extra hour?
I finally decided to give in & play Factorio for the first time, embracing what I knew would become my new addiction

My wife has been gone all week so it's been solo parenting my twins. But the thing that really has saved me is the kids falling asleep to my wife's recorded reading of a 'meditation bed time story' of a platypus
Literally took them less than 2 minutes to drift off

But no worries, we have a siphon going so maybe this will relieve some of the puddle forming above me?
(thanks physics for the assist)

I've been on this earth for over 3 decades & I still don't understand why the option for hand dryers to blow into your face exists

I've been waiting for today— my preorder for the 20th anniversary Twilight book set finally ships! If I'm lucky, it'll be here in the next day or two!
I have weird interest but the movies literally bring me sooo much joy in the uh... decisions made. Hadn't read the books yet so this will be fun

I love how these nuances that hide in the data can be so useful!
But I'm also partly afraid to be *too excited* in this case:
"We shouldn't get rid of DST! How will we be able to distinguish if someone is pretending to be in New Zealand?!"
also, relevant xkcd: m.xkcd.com/1172/

physicists also have a stake in getting rid of daylight savings time to stop mucking up their data:

Don't get me wrong, I think there's a time & place for any tool. In this case, it makes a whole lot sense for me to put it together
I think this is more on me being a bit too 'unhuman' lol
(my wife says it was the format that made her think a person didn't write it)

My twins (5yrs old) had asked about making video games on the computer so we took this afternoon making a chasing game together using Python (pygame-zero.readthedocs.io)
It was fun having them come up w/ the design and understanding how 'testing' worked

My mother-in-law gave me this old trig book from their grandfather they recently inherited saying 'you might be the right person who would enjoy this'
I am indeed having good ol' nerd time— it's great seeing this one page on logarithms for when calculators weren't really a thing
I'm loving this!

who else got melted gum on their shirt before having a school event so you used some dish soap & water to pick out the remnants with a plastic fork but now their shirt was wet and so dried it in their wife's classroom microwave only for it to dry too well and get burn spots?
