Mark S. Smith was the founder of Second Skins, a leeather resale shop in Seattle. He was described as a generous advocate for justice and diversity.

He was born in Upstate New York, attended college in Buffalo, NY and lived in Key West, Fla. and New York City before moving to Seattle.
In the last one-and-a-half years of his life, Mark realized his great goal to own a business. He was the founder and original owner of Second Skins, a resale leather shop, which failing health forced him to sell this spring.
Mark was a strong advocate of justice and diversity, not only of sexual orientation and gender, but also of class, color, and opportunity.
His acts of personal generosity will long be remembered by his friends, and by all of those who benefited from his private, often anonymous, gifts.
Mark's friends will also miss his outrageous, irreverent sense of humor and his unflagging loyalty.

This feels real messy in terms of IP. The reason fanfic works is because it's not being sold. But for a publisher to actively sell what what they are describing as fanfic, how is Warner Bros not all over this? Are they taking a slice of the profits?
If the publishers are going to talk about it, why is everyone acting so hush hush?
